Well damn, missed making a new years post and everything.
So with 2023 very nearly over and my birthday having just passed (oh god how did I make it to 34??)... I have nothing much to report :P Still trying to get my life together and just fucking up every attempt constantly. Dreading the future while trying to un-fuck my present.
So some fandom things:
Markiplier Egos
I'm still on my Markiplier brainrot. Although I have to say, this has to be the first fandom where I have written the most fanfics for - totaling to just over 83 fics on different accounts since starting in 2022 after watching In Space with Markiplier for the first time O.O Its kind of crazy to me with how much writing I have done for this fandom involving Mark's characters, but its definitely been fun too XD
Death Note the Musical (London, The Lyric theatre)
I had an early birthday present and had a chance to see Death Note the Musical in concert and omg I loved it. Even though there were parts of the show that wasn't as good as the Japanese performance or the concept album (absolutely blasphemous how they cut out most of L's part in The Way it Ends), I honestly had a really good time. They really went into the humor of the story and Ryuk's character was fully camp and hilarious in addition to the other actors in the show. I heard someone complained about Misa's outfit as being too hot topic, which... yeah lol did you not read the manga or watch the anime - Misa is so a mallgoth queen XD Fell in love with Rem's voice and absolutely enjoyed the homoeroticism between her and Misa.
Also it was awesome to hear L's song that was originally added in the Japanese performance translated into the English performance. It was one of many things I loved about it, especially going in as both a fan of the other versions of the musical and as a Death Note fan. With that being said, I can see how this might be a hard sell as an ongoing performance in the West. Any good adaptation should be able to stand up on its own without having to know about the original source and even though I'd argue that the musical does do that - I could see why someone new to Death Note might not like the musical, especially with the tragic ending. Hope the American Death Note fans get to have a chance to see it if there's a run of the show over there; I feel like the UK shows were to give an example that there is an audience for this show, so who knows what will happen next.
Five Nights at Freddy's Movie
Had a bit of a downer birthday with my Mum acting up, so I took myself out to see the FNAF movie the next day. Although I had mixed feelings about the movie, overall I did actually enjoy it. Was surprised that it was 15 rated, especially with how big the younger side of the fanbase is and that its pg-13 in America. The showing I went to was pretty empty, although I did go during the day and the ticket costed £15 now o__O no wonder people aren't going to the cinema any more.
In any case, the puppetry for the animatronics were AMAZING. They looked so much like the characters and honestly with the second movie in the works I'm really looking forward to seeing how they're going to create the marionette puppet. Even though there was violence and gore, it was actually surprisingly tame with very little jumpscares. Its even funnier when it was the cupcake doing the most damage in the movie XD
Cracking up with the reaction from Tumblr between the thirst for Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard as Spring-Trap. Plus the amount of Markiplier memes were just golden, even though he wasn't even in the movie (there had been time clashes between filming FNAF and Mark's own movie Iron-Lung. BUT he's hopefully going to be in the sequel).
Also I haven't been able to stop going 'Dum dee dum dum dum' like Foxy since seeing the movie :'D
Been getting into a lot of music, but also reignited my love for Steam Powered Giraffe. I can't believe how much I have missed since The Vice Quadrant albums. I went from re-listening to Fire Fire and Soliton, to their newest 'Eat Your Heart Out', 'Shattered Stars' and my favorite on their last album 'Hot on the Trail'
