So I've been checking in on Deviantart from time to time. The Eclipse update has really tanked the site since it became mandatory in 2020.
I use to go on there to post a few fanworks, check the fan groups and reply to comments; the site wasn't as active as it used to be in the 2000s & mid-2010s - but since the update was introduced its basically a ghost town with the occasional person coming by to spam-fave everything and just leave without a word (not that I'm against that since I've been guilty of doing that in the past - but that's been the main kind of interaction I've gotten on there for the past few times I've logged in).
Although the fan groups I've followed still gets updated with submissions; they're largely un-monitored groups where just about anything can get posted without rejection (like fetish art just being spammed through or something not even belonging in that fandom) and no communication among other fans or the mods. I'm sure there are a few still going, but its become really scarce on there.

Even when the updates were terrible, I had been at least motivated to go on there to check my messages - right until they found a way to fuck that up too. For some ungodly reason, DA has decided we needed two columns to show up message notification - where one of them would make sense to fold away when it wasn't needed; but no - it just shows two columns of message notification that barely allows you to just see the comments as favoriting notification and site updates are spammed everywhere. In addition you get to do twice as much work to get rid of the same messages in each column because some idiot thought that was an improvement???
Now its too overwhelming to even look at it so I have even less reason to check in.

Even then I mostly go look at the DA update posts because that's where the majority of people comment on whatever money making scheme clown-show DA manages to come up with next now that they realize their shitty decisions have cost them more people leaving the site for good after making fun of people in the first round of the Eclipse update for voicing up how much they didn't like the really unnecessary 'updates' to the site. So far, on top of slowly getting every little thing that was once a free function to become only available under a Core subscription; there's been ways where they've tried to essentially scam artists via a shitty payment scheme through the site (when people can just keep using paypal and patreon) and the whole thing with them getting on board with NFT's.

Also, when I had commented on the most recent DA update post; somebody went through the comments and anonymously gifted people one-month's core... which is absolutely useless to me.
I don't know if its someone working behind the scenes on DA trying to tempt people in to buying core or if one of DA's bootlickers with more money than sense just felt like giving everyone a limited core subscription - but either way I really wish there was a way to refuse it. It's wasted on me since I had largely been on DA for the fandom side of the community - which is mostly dead and makes me feel less inclined to actually post anything... I might check to see if I can change my user name if that's at all an advantage, but otherwise LOL - I'm never giving DA a single penny. They've shown their asses too many times to even come close to convincing me to spend anything on them let alone a subscription.

RIP Deviantart, you were an integral part to my fandom activities pre-Eclipse.
